But the city is not lacking in shopping and has its share of markets, Banja Luka shopping centres, malls and family-run establishments. Banja Luka Local Products
Handmade goods like priglavci (colourful wool socks knitted by local women), opanak shoes (another famous traditional product, said to have been in use since medieval times) and local sweets – of which there are a great variety at most Banja Luka shops, make excellent gifts. At Duga’s Workshop and Ethno Gallery, which is a must visit for every traveller, they sell all sorts of traditional stuff including hand-knitted clothes, dolls, slippers and home décor. Some of the decorative items you find here are really fabulous. Those interested in art will love the exhibitions where works of local artists are displayed and sold. With luck, you might be able to pick up an outstanding work of art!
Other Shopping in Banja Luka
Browsing in Banja Luka is not limited to souvenirs and knick-knacks. You’ll come across Banja Luka boutiques selling branded designer wear and fashion accessories, jewellery shops with uniquely designed and crafted ornaments, book stalls, flower shops and commercial establishments dealing in electronics, computers and gadgets. A good place to shop is along the pedestrian zone of Gospodska Ulica (Stately Street) where you find a lot of Banja Luka shops. It is unlikely you will have too many choices, but prices of most products are much lower than in Western Europe.
When it comes to everyday products and budget Banja Luka shopping, the best places to head to are the markets. Banja Luka markets offer just about anything, and are especially ideal places to stock up on local produce including fresh organically produced vegetables, fruits and milk products among others. Check out the Trznica (City Market), located right in the centre of the city, where you are sure to find something to buy. Nova Pijaca (New Market) is also not to be missed. It is the biggest marketplace in Banja Luka and has a flea market. Shoppers usually get good deals on clothing, accessories, shoes, carpets, sports gear, baked goods, nuts, meat and even flowers.
